Here are a few articles which have recently been posted on AnimeNation:
Tuesday, June 13th: Animerica Magazine Trigun Misprint. The online version of Animerica Magazine recently posted an article on the western series Trigun, with the description, "A sneak preview of the series coming to the Cartoon Network!" The article only gives a description of the series, and does not give any further information about the series appearing on Cartoon Network. Unfortunately this was due to a typo, which was meant to refer to Gundam Wing. Currently there are no plans for Trigun to air on the Cartoon Network.
Wednesday, May 30th: Trigun on Toonami, Reported Again, Denied Again. In its ongoing promotion of its domestic Trigun soundtrack, TokyoPop has referred to the series as, "seen on Cartoon Network." Pioneer representative Chad Kime has informed Anime News Network that, "This is simply an error by Tokyo Pop." Currently there are no confirmed plans for Trigun to air on the Cartoon Network mainly due to the show's "excessive use of guns."
Alrighty then. This is a subject that is quite commonly disagreed on. Would it be a good thing if Cartoon Network's Toonami aired Trigun? The most common answer to this one would be hell no.
Of course, there are the advantages, and there are the disadvantages. First, the advantages. Trigun would get more popularity, my site would get more hits, (YAH thats a big deal) you'd be able to watch it without having to pay $25 to $30 bucks for a volume of 3-4 eps, and many people would be able to relate to it. Of course, 99% of these people would be little kids, because Toonami censors its anime.
Kinda hard to imagine censored Trigun, huh? I'd imagine that cursing would be easy to censor (the very handy words darn, dang, shoot, heck, and butt), and Toonami's allowed to play the word 'crap', so no big deal on that one. CN is right, though, about the 'excessive use of guns'. Video censoring is very difficult, particularly where there is blood. It would certainly look incredibly stupid when a guy is shot and all you can see is a clean dark hole through him.
But don't think that just because Trigun won't be played on Toonami means that it won't be played on TV at all. HBO has recently been advertising a premium all-anime channel to air in late summer, and Trigun is definitely popular enough that I would expect it to be shown because who could possibly hate Trigun?
Legato Needs to Watch His Fat Intake
Have you ever noticed how Legato eats? I mean, of course we all know that he likes hot dogs, but have you ever actually paid close attention? Yes, shut up- I know I have too much free time!
If you look at when he actually bites down on the hot dog, it seems to crumble. I wonder if Legato knows he's eating a stale hot dog? He needs to check the expiration date on those things! And then, he starts chewing on what he just put in his mouth, which is all normal, but he never swallows! Is he just letting it dissolve in his throat, or what?
In another scene, where Legato is in a bar, he is eating what kinda looks like cake (update: its pancakes). The same thing happens with it! It looks stale when he bites it, and he never swallows. And wouldn't he be pretty fat if all he ever ate was hot dogs and cake? Who knows...maybe his stomach is in his shoulder, and thats really why it's so big.
Trigun's Sequel: Gundrive
I recently heard from an anonymous person that Madhouse was currently in the process of making a Trigun sequel called Gundrive. I found this interesting and decided to look into it some.
Well, I didn't find anything. That is until recently AnimeNation confirmed that Yasuhiro Nightow himself confirmed that there was no Gundrive in production, and it was just a rumor. Figures.
That got me thinking, though, what would a Trigun sequel be like? The anime has already strayed so far from the manga in terms of an ending that it may as well have an entirely separate title for its sequel than the manga does. Especially because a lot of important people die in the anime (but I'm not going to spoil who), "Gundrive" would have to make its own characters, which, of course, would not be of Nightow's creation and hence would also not be of the same originality in the original. But if there was a sequel do you think they would keep Meryl and Millie? They'd probably be replaced with some new cheesy character. Something like Vash's long lost cousin, Jack. They'd call him Jack the Killer or something to that stupid effect. Oh, and maybe Jack would also be Meryl's ex-boyfriend, which will increase the comical hijinks... sorry, got ahead of myself.
Vash is a Power Ranger?!
I heard both sides to the discussion over whether or not the Trigun dub is good. It's really either you love it or you hate it anymore. I, personally, like the dub, but I can definitely see the other side of the argument. The dub's voice for Vash, played by Johnny Yong Bosch, does seem to be overly hyperactive and high-pitched sometimes, but shouldn't that be fitting to Vash?
First, let's pointlessly look at some background on Johnny Yong Bosch. Prior to Trigun, his entire career has been Power Rangers. That's right, Power Rangers. Frankly I use to think Power Rangers was cool, but of course this was far back in the day when the Power Rangers didn't transform into a Zord from cars, that's when it lost interest. I'm pretty sure that he was the green ranger in one of the later series. He's long since been booted off the cast, and has done nothing but Trigun since.
But is he worthy of Trigun? Let's compare him to the Japanese voice actor of Vash, Masaya Onosaka (who had previously been in Sailormoon and Card Captor Sakura). They really don't sound all that different, miraculously, except Bosch is possibly a bit higher pitched. Its usually the other way around in anime dubbing, but whether or not that is a good change in variety is up to you.
But also take this into note. Who cares? Does he really destroy the "essence" of Vash? I think we can easily say no to that one. So, if he doesn't hurt the character or screw up why should we waste our time whiny and moaning over it? (rhetorical question, we have nothing better to do)
