Summary:

Cowboy Bebop depicts the lives of 3 bounty hunters, 1 hacker, and 1 Welsh Corgi named Ein. Together (though, in some instances, seperately) they seek out bounties to keep themselves on their feet financially... but they also seek out information. Information about their scarred and unknown pasts: what happened? was she killed? who is my father?

Travelling on their starship Bebop, the group takes on missions great and small in the name of Woolongs (the name of the currency). Spike, the coolheaded ex-mafia man. Jet, the steadfast old-timer. Faye, the vivacious sex-kitten. Ed, the young expert hacker. And Ein... the dog. Racing from the asteroid battered planet Earth, to Mars and back again, the "Cowboys" (bounty hunters, as they are called in this setting) relentlessly hunt down their targets. Every mission is not successful, however. It is not uncommon for the group to accidentally lose their prey do to internal conflicts and sudden shifts of heart.

Cowboy Bebop is a humorous series on it's face, but it has a much more serious and dark tone underneath. Most of the Cowboy Bebop episodes consist of the characters following individual bounties to try and keep themselves running, but occasionally a segment of a character's past will be revealed, generally creating a darker feel.

Explanation for Rating:

Itchy:
The greatest series I've seen. The "filler" episodes were fun, and provided context for the rest of the series, which was brilliantly dark and well-crafted. Intelligently directed and excellently drawn, Cowboy Bebop stands as one of the greatest action anime series ever.
