| Summary:
Big O is a basic super robot show with a simple setup. 40 years ago the world ended. Nobody
can remember anything prior to that date and nothing exists outside of one city. However, people
have somehow maintained a living standard about equal to the modern day and giant robots/monsters
constantly attack from outside of that city.
The main character, a freelace Negociator by the name
of Roger Smith, spends his days undertaking various contracts all under mysterious circumstances and
fighting off giant robot/monsters with his own giant robot, the Big O. And yes, that is simple. Logical, no,
but simple none the less.

| Explanation for Rating:
Spirit of Discord: Seriously, Big O almost needs a double score for each of it's
half seasons. The first half suffers strongly from Monster of
the Week Syndrome. Every episode plays out the same way, somebody
hires Roger to do something under some strange terms, a short mystery
ensues, some mecha fight, and they move on to the next episode.
That's season 1.
Then There's season 2. People talk about stuff that doesn't make
sense. The French try to take over the world. The world doesn't
exist. The main character has incoherent flashbacks. Giant robots
fight. Saaaaaaaay What? Seriously, I think that the writer started this show
without any thought of how it was going to end. But I'll give him
credit, he did a better job of pulling everything together than most
anime do. Not only that, he uses a full 10 episodes to lead up to the
ending as opposed to the usual mecha show which goes from Monster of
the Week to confusing ending in 2 episodes.
Taking both season into account, Big O doesn't have much over the average mecha show,
but it does have a little. Super Robot fans can enjoy the entire show, even the first season,
as just a good, if somewhat strange, series of over the top mecha battles. People into things
like plot and character might consider skipping episodes three through eleven. And those
who just want a good sensible plot that requires no interpretation with down to Earth mecha
shouldn't be anywhere near this show. It's not really worth paying for, but you'd might as
well watch it while it's on Cartoon Network.
